Welcome to The Lancaster Company November newsletter! Autumn has evoked in us our hibernation mode as the colder weather sets in and compels us to retreat indoors. Outside, mother nature puts on her annual display of vibrant, earthy colours, as we watch treetops dance in the blustery winds before they shed their leaves for the winter. And before we know it, the countdown to the festive season will have arrived sending us all into a Christmas shopping panic. Fear not, however, Christmas is a time to relax and celebrate with loved ones, so in this edition, we showcase some of our beautiful, vintage silver-plated items to make your Christmas table shine. We have cutlery, candlesticks, trays and more, along with our beautiful vintage glassware sets. Read on!
Tableware for Christmas
Vintage glassware often only makes an appearance on special occasions such as Christmas, yet this super set of twelve Dorset port glasses by Stuart Crystal will want you using it all year round. Discontinued in 1964, the glasses still have a contemporary feel in their simpleness. They are adorned with hand-cut lens facets to the bowl, a baluster stem, a plain foot and are marked to the base. A perfect way to enjoy a glass of port at your Christmas lunch.
Serve canapes on this late Art Deco silver-plated cocktail tray, made by Walker and Hall in 1934. This handsome small tray, with engine-turned decoration, may have originally had small bun feet as there are small indentations on the back of the tray denoting where they may have been. A real vintage treasure to add to your collection.
Celebrate with a glass of fizz with this fabulous set of eight antique champagne coupes, dating from the early twentieth century. These glorious glasses are lens cut to the bowl with a baluster stem, a plain round foot and a polished pontil – perfect if you’re hosting a Christmas drinks party.
Dim the lights but don't dine in the dark! Illuminate your table with this lovely pair of silver-on-copper candlesticks. Marked Whitby Plate London on the base, they have a classic, simple shape with bead decoration.
The items that cease to diminish in popularity all year round are our vintage cutlery – and perhaps you’re in need of some new pieces before Christmas. With traditional yet timeless style, our cutlery is very well-made, practical and will last. We have various EPNS cutlery available which you can find on our website.
